By the decree of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the Program for the Development of Foreign Economic Activity of Turkmenistan for 2020-2025 was approved. In order to fulfill the tasks arising from the Program, ministries and sectoral departments are required to develop and submit draft sectoral plans in this direction for approval to the respective vice-prime ministers within a month.

Speaking at an extended meeting of the government last Friday, the head of state identified priority steps to be taken in the near future for the development of foreign economic cooperation of our country.

In particular, the President noted that next year it will be necessary to intensify relations with such structures as the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the World Trade Organization and other specialized international structures.

Our country will continue to establish friendly relations with neighboring and other states of the planet based on the principles of mutual respect, the leader of the nation said. In this context, the President emphasized that “the most important foreign policy of Turkmenistan is to strengthen good-neighborly relations with all countries of Central Asia, Afghanistan, Iran, and Azerbaijan. We will also pay great attention to expanding cooperation with Turkey. ”

The head of state noted that “the Russian Federation is a strategic partner of Turkmenistan. Based on the historical experience of interaction between the two countries, we will continue to increase cooperation with Russia in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields. ”


Stressing that Turkmenistan has been supporting fruitful and significant cooperation with China for many years, the President said that "in order to expand multilateral relations with China, we will continue to use all our opportunities."


Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also noted that Japan, the Republic of Korea, and Malaysia maintain fruitful political and economic ties with our country, with which a number of economic and social projects have already been successfully implemented.

-We will continue close cooperation with India and Pakistan, with whom we have ancient historical ties. Turkmenistan follows the path of strengthening cooperation with the countries of the Middle East. In the near future, we will carry out all the necessary work to bring cooperation with our partners in this region to a qualitatively new level, the President said.


Noting that the European states have always been and continue to be reliable partners of our country, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that next year it is planned to take all measures to bring relations between Turkmenistan and European countries to a qualitatively new level.

The President also noted that open and fruitful political ties between Turkmenistan and the United States provide grounds for successfully building up cooperation.


In addition, work will continue on establishing diplomatic relations with the states of the African continent, with which it is planned to increase the number of mutual visits.


Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also noted good prospects in cooperation with regional economic unions, such as the Organization for Economic Cooperation, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and several other regional structures.
