The Chinese-Turkmen gas cooperation can be described as strategic, long-term and mutually beneficial, meeting mutual interests. This was announced by Chinese Ambassador to Turkmenistan Sun Weidong in an article published on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the people's Republic of China.

"With the commissioning of the Turkmenistan – China gas pipeline at the end of 2009, China imported more than 250 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas," the article says. "For more than 10 years, the structure of Chinese-Turkmen gas cooperation has developed, including production and development, transportation, trade, construction works and financial services."

The Ambassador also noted that bilateral relations are also developing in the trade and economic sphere. If in 1992 bilateral trade amounted to only 4.5 million us dollars, in 2018 it reached 8.4 billion us dollars, an increase of more than 1,800 times. Since 2011, China has been the largest trading partner of Turkmenistan for 8 consecutive years, and Turkmenistan is the third trading partner of China among the CIS countries, the article notes.

Mr. Weidong also stressed that in the political sphere, China and Turkmenistan provide each other with unwavering support, demonstrate the similarity of approaches to addressing important issues of global development and cooperate fruitfully on the platform of the UN and other authoritative international organizations.
