The US interdepartmental delegation headed by the special representative for Afghanistan, Ambassador Zalmai Khalilzad will visit Pakistan, Afghanistan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Belgium, UAE and Qatar from December 2 to 20. This was reported in a press release of the US Department of state.

The American envoy responsible for promoting inter-Afghan reconciliation will meet with the Afghan government and other interested partners during the visit to ensure support for an inclusive peace process that will enable the Afghan people to decide the fate of their state.

As noted in the press release, the US foreign Ministry confirmed Washington's commitment to supporting the aspirations of the Afghan people for peace and promoting a political settlement between the Afghan government and the Taliban.

In order to more closely coordinate efforts to draw the Taliban movement to engage in dialogue with the official Kabul, Zalmay Khalilzad will liaise with President Ghani, chief Executive Abdullah and other parties.

Earlier, in an interview with the media, Zalmai Khalilzad repeatedly stressed the need for a comprehensive strategy for maintaining stability, which should include a regional approach and involvement in resolving internal issues in Afghanistan.

It is worth noting that Turkmenistan, guided by the principles of good-neighbourliness, humanism and solidarity, has been providing practical assistance to the brotherly country for a number of years. As President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has repeatedly stressed, the Turkmen side supports the involvement of Afghanistan in the implementation of major regional projects that will contribute to solving the most pressing problems of socio-economic development of the country, as well as create thousands of new jobs.

Currently, with the active participation of our country, a number of important regional infrastructure projects are being implemented for the Afghan economy. Among them – TAPI gas pipeline, as well as power lines and fiber-optic communication on the route Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan, multimodal transport and transit corridor Lazurit.
