Day of Magtymguly Fragi’s poetry was celebrated in Kiev with a solemn ceremony of laying flowers at the monument to the great Turkmen poet and thinker in the scenic square in the city center.

Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, ambassadors of foreign countries accredited in Ukraine, members of Verkhovna Rada and the Kyiv City Council, the Ministry of Culture, poets, writers and scholars, the Turkmen diaspora and students, local mass media participated in the ceremony.

By tradition, as part of the celebrations in honor of great Magtymguly, winners of the state award of Turkmenistan “Medal of Magtymguly Fragi”, poets, writers, honored art workers of Ukraine Pavel Movchan and Alexei Kononenko spoke at the ceremony. They cited the lines from the heritage of the great thinker that they translated into Ukrainian language. As the speakers aptly noted, “the profound human feelings, emotions and spirits of the genius Fragi, expressed in poetry, create lively images of people, events of the past epoch and provide the authentic thinking of contemporaries of the feat of the people in their struggle for the right to life and happy future.”

The honorary guests of the festive event were presented with copies of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s book “Turkmenistan is the heart of the Great Silk Road” in the Ukrainian language.
