The European Union, of which Italy is a founding member, remains firmly committed to political dialogue in support of Turkmenistan's neutrality and energy and infrastructure development strategies aimed at regional connectivity. This was stated by Italian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Diego Ungaro, speaking in Ashgabat at a reception in honor of the 72nd anniversary of the formation of the Italian Republic, news Agency MEDIA-TURKMEN ORIENT tells.

Speaking about the current agenda of Turkmen-Italian relations, the Ambassador recalled the meetings of the EU high representative for foreign Affairs and security policy Federica Mogherini with the Turkmen delegation on the sidelines of regional forums in Samarkand and Baku in 2018.

Describing the state of economic partnership, the diplomat said that in November 2018, a bilateral business forum is scheduled to be held in Ashgabat, which will be attended by delegations of Italian entrepreneurs interested in expanding trade and industrial cooperation with Turkmenistan.

– Currently, more than 70 Italian companies are operating in Turkmenistan. Trade-industrial and technological cooperation is a distinctive feature and enriches our bilateral relations, – said the Italian Plenipotentiary.

Italy has traditionally been one of the main buyers of the Turkmen fuel and energy complex, and Turkmenistan, in turn, imports industrial products from Italy — engineering products and technological components — in demand in almost all sectors of the economy, the report says.

In recent years, humanitarian ties between Turkmenistan and Italy have been actively expanding. As it was noted in the speech, among the events planned for the near future is the week of Italian gastronomy, which will be held in the national tourist zone "Avaza". In autumn, the Museum of fine arts in Ashgabat will host an exhibition dedicated to the silk road.

In addition, according to Ambassador Ungaro, it is planned to organize an event in the field of archeology, taking into account the fact that the parties have extended bilateral agreements on cooperation in this area.
