Issues of expanding the Turkmen-Iranian cooperation were discussed at the meeting of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani with the delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Vice-chairman and Minister of foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov. As reported on the website of the foreign Ministry of our country, the Turkmen delegation visited Iran on a working visit on may 12-13, 2018.

It is noted that at the meeting of the Turkmen delegation with the President of Iran, the issues of expanding practical cooperation between the two countries, identifying new directions and joint implementation of promising projects aimed at strengthening partnership in the strategic direction of cooperation were discussed.

During the meeting, it was noted that the official visit of the President of Iran to Turkmenistan on March 27-28, 2018 gave a powerful impetus to the development of bilateral cooperation, filling the relations with new content, which is reflected in a solid package of signed documents.

Also during the visit the delegation of Turkmenistan held a meeting with the Minister of roads and urban development and head of the Iranian part of the joint Turkmen-Iranian intergovernmental Commission on economic cooperation Abbas Ahmad Akhoundi. The sides exchanged views on new directions of increasing the volume of mutual trade, more efficient use of opportunities for cross-border trade and development of cooperation in the transport sector. The sides also discussed the possibility of holding a regular meeting of the intergovernmental Commission on economic cooperation in Turkmenistan in the near future.

At a meeting with Iranian foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, the current state and prospects of development of Turkmen-Iranian relations in the political, trade-economic, cultural and humanitarian fields were discussed. The parties also exchanged views on a wide range of issues of international and regional agenda of mutual interest.

The delegation of Turkmenistan also held talks with Iranian oil Minister Bizhan Namdar Zangen, during which they discussed prospects for further expansion of Turkmen-Iranian cooperation in the fuel and energy sector. In particular, special attention was paid to strengthening cooperation in the field of oil, gas and petrochemical industry.

The Turkmen delegation was also received by the Chairman of Majlis of Islamic Shura of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Larijani Ardashir. During the talks, the parties exchanged views on the state and prospects of bilateral cooperation. Among the priority areas, along with strengthening the inter-parliamentary dialogue, the partnership in the field of transport and the development of humanitarian contacts were mentioned.

During the visit, the delegation of Turkmenistan also held meetings with the heads and officials of the presidential administration, the Ministry of industry, mines and trade, the Organization for trade and development, the organization of roads and transport, the Central Bank, the ministries of energy, transport, and the Railway company of Iran.

During the talks, the parties discussed topical issues of interstate cooperation, stressed mutual interest in the further development of dialogue in the trade, economic and transport sectors, fuel and energy sector and water sector.

As a result of the negotiations, protocols on cooperation in the field of energy and rail transport were signed.
