Guided by the principles of mercy and humanism, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a decree on pardoning of prisoners with the view of further strengthening the unity of the Turkmen society and in honor of the Holy Night of Omnipotence.
In accordance with the decree, 586 citizens of Turkmenistan and 26 foreign nationals have been exempted from serving their prime sentences as well as additional punishment in the form of compulsory residence in a designated area.
The head of state instructed Secretary of State Security Council Yaylym Berdiev to make relevant arrangements to ensure that all pardoned prisoners mark the Holy Night of Omnipotence with their families. The President of Turkmenistan also instructed the heads of local administrations to take measures with regards to employment of pardoned prisoners.
The Night of Omnipotence is one of the most blessed nights of Ramadan – the month of fasting of Muslims. According to Islamic teachings, the Quran was sent down to the Prophet Muhammad in this night.
