At the Turkmen-Italian business forum held in Milan, one of the Central topics was the possibility of expanding cooperation in the oil and gas industry of Turkmenistan.
In particular, it was noted that the main areas of expansion of Turkmenistan's cooperation in the energy sector are the development of license blocks of the Turkmen sector of the Caspian sea, investment projects to increase oil recovery, in the field of oil and gas chemistry, as well as service projects for the construction of industrial facilities in the industry.
Currently, foreign companies are implementing four projects in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian sea and three on land on the basis of production sharing Agreements (PSAs). Among them – the project on the contractual territory of "Nebitdag", which since 2008 is carried out by the Italian company "Eni Turkmenistan Limited".
Speaking at the business forum, Eni Vice President for Central Asia Luca Vignati noted that over 11 years of successful activity in Turkmenistan, the company has invested more than two billion dollars in the development of the field on the contract territory. Today, the company produces more than two thousand tons of oil per day.
Vignati also noted that Eni, which is present in 63 countries of the world, pays special attention to technologies that ensure environmental safety of production, which in Turkmenistan has special requirements. Eni Turkmenistan Limited invests heavily in technology and know-how. A number of them were first used in Turkmenistan and then began to be used in other regions of the world.
Vignati also spoke about the possibility of diversifying Eni's activities in Turkmenistan beyond the oil and gas sector, namely, in the field of renewable energy development.
Speaking about the "recipe" for successful cooperation with Turkmenistan, Vignati stressed that the most important role for effective cooperation in such a strategic sector as oil and gas, which implies a long-term perspective of cooperation, is the political stability of the state, which is a special merit of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
Luca Vignati also stressed that Turkmenistan is one of the few countries where agreements are very clearly regulated and respected. This is also a great incentive for business development and attracting new investments.
