The European Commission approved the fourth list of projects of common interest (PCI) for the implementation of cross-border energy infrastructure in the European Union. The new list is a balance between three main goals: sustainable development, accessibility and security of energy supplies.

Over the past two years, the number of gas projects on the list has decreased from 53 to 32. Among the remaining ones on the new list is the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline project, which provides for the transportation of natural gas from Turkmenistan to Europe via Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.

During the XXIV International Conference “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan 2019”, held in Ashgabat in October, the representative of the European Commission’s Directorate General for Energy Erlendas Grigorovich emphasized the EU’s interest in building a gas pipeline along the Caspian bottom and its willingness to support companies that decided to participate in the Trans-Caspian project.
