The possibility of implementing joint projects in key areas for the national economies of the two countries was discussed at the meeting of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with the Minister of trade and investment of Saudi Arabia Majid bin Abdullah al Qasabi, who arrived in Ashgabat at the head of a representative delegation to participate in the 6th meeting of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Saudi Commission on trade and economic cooperation.
Stressing that Turkmenistan pays great attention to strengthening the interstate dialogue with Saudi Arabia, G. Berdimuhamedov noted that in recent years the cooperation between the two countries has acquired a new quality and content. In this regard, the Turkmen leader noted the presence of a solid potential for the progressive development of partnership. At the same time, the importance of the agreements reached following the official visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Saudi Arabia in may 2016 was stressed.
During the meeting, the sides noted the role of the intergovernmental Commission in further expansion of business contacts. The guest stressed that favorable conditions have been created for successful joint work, first of all, the optimal investment climate and the policy of "open doors" pursued by Ashgabat.
In this regard, Majid bin Abdullah al-Qasabi, who is the co-Chairman of the intergovernmental Commission on the part of Saudi Arabia, expressed confidence that at the sixth meeting new steps will be taken to concretize cooperation in the fuel and energy sector, the textile industry and the food industry, in the banking and other spheres.
Taking the opportunity, the guest congratulated the head of state on the commissioning of the largest gas chemical complex in the region for the production of polyethylene and polypropylene, which will increase the export potential of the Turkmen economy.
The interlocutors also noted that Turkmenistan and Saudi Arabia, being recognized world energy powers, are ready to increase cooperation in the oil and gas sector. In recent years, Turkmenistan has been actively working on the creation of a multi-option system for bringing its energy resources to world markets, implementing important energy projects. One of them is the construction of the Turkmenistan – Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline.
Noting that in the implementation of economic policy Turkmenistan relies on the latest achievements of scientific and technological progress, attracting leading foreign companies and foreign investments, Berdimuhamedov invited partners from Saudi Arabia to consider in detail the possibility of implementing joint projects in key areas for the national economies of both countries.
The sides also stressed the expediency of holding regular business meetings and business forums that facilitate the establishment of contacts between both public and private structures.
Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Turkmenistan Khalid bin Faisal al-Sahli took part in the meeting.
