The issues of financing of large infrastructure projects in the Central Asian region are discussed during the international conference on financing for sustainable development goals (sdgs), which is held on June 20-21 in Ashgabat by the State Bank for foreign economic activity of Turkmenistan together with the UN Development Program (UNDP).
The forum is attended by representatives of various ministries and departments of the country, international financial institutions and other organizations, private enterprises and commercial banks, development experts.
The agenda of the forum includes specific current projects, including the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, the functioning of which will serve the sustainable development of Central Asia and neighboring regions.
"Independent, Neutral Turkmenistan is one of the first and few countries in the world to adopt global Sustainable development goals at the governmental level, – the welcoming address of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the participants of the meeting tells. – In September 2016, the government of Turkmenistan approved a total of 17 goals, 148 objectives and 187 indicators in the field of sustainable development."
"Our country attaches great importance to the implementation of infrastructure projects in the field of transport and telecommunications, – the President said. – In order to establish closer partnership with international organizations, we have successfully implemented major projects for the construction of the North-South transnational railway, the international seaport of Turkmenbashi, the international airport of Ashgabat. The aim of these projects is to further develop the most important transport and transit corridors of regional and global importance.
"Turkmenistan is actively involved and is seeking a positive solution to the most important international issues, in particular, in the field of energy security, diversification of transport infrastructure," The President said in his address. – The creation of a multi-vector pipeline system contributes to the supply of energy resources to the world markets. In this regard, it is important to note that all constructive initiatives of our state receive the support and approval of the international community. This is enshrined in the UN Resolutions adopted in 2008 and 2013 "Reliable and stable transit of energy and its role in ensuring sustainable development and international cooperation".
The head of the state also noted the great importance of the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline, which, "significantly increasing the export capacity of our country, will contribute to the strengthening of energy security and economic stability and will become a powerful basis for achieving the Sustainable development goals of the entire region".
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also expressed confidence that"the forum will become an effective platform for the exchange of experience, will contribute to the expansion of international cooperation for financing sustainable development".
